Kajukenbo: The Original Mixed Martial Art

Kajukenbo is a mixed martial art that was established in Hawaii in 1947. The name "Kajukenbo" is an acronym for various arts found within its original formation.

The original art's main focus was self-defense, so if a technique worked it was included in the system. If a technique didn't work, it was scrapped. The techniques were field tested by the founders, who were in the military and worked as either military police or bouncers and security.

Nowadays, in true Hawaiian fashion, Kajukenbo practitioners also integrate other styles into their training. As a result, it's not unusual to see elements of Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, or Escrima.
